If the Torre de Manila continues on, it will open a floodgate of more High Density Buildings to be built that could ruin the Luneta Sightline. If DMCI succeeded, this will just open opportunities for unscrupulous developers to overrun sensible Urban Planning stuff for profit. Torre de Manila, will not be the last building to be built in this area if it succeeds. Sound Economic development must go hand in hand with sound environmental development and sound cultural development… One must not be left out in favor of only one or two, that is not the rule of Sustainable Development.
Within a decade or two, the Sightline of Rizal Park will look like the second figure if DMCI succeeds. Luneta does not just serve as the Central Park of Manila but also of the whole Metro Manila, if not the whole Philippines. Luneta, though minuscule in area compared to Manhattan’s Central Park or London’s Hyde Park can equal the two parks in terms of history and landmarks. History happened there, and history is still being made there.
