DepEd drops 'Science' for pupils 
The Department of Education (DepEd) has decided to drop “Science” from the roster of subjects taken up by incoming Grade 1 pupils in line with its efforts to decongest the Basic Education Curriculum and to make learning more enjoyable to young learners.
Education Secretary Armin Luistro said that the move to exclude Science in Grade 1 subjects starting this coming school year is based on the design of K to 12 curriculum. “The overall design of the new curriculum to be introduced and implemented this coming June to both Grade 1 and First Year high school students is based on the idea that we should be taking the students where they are,” Luistro said in an interview.

The one who made the headline should be fired in his job. I first thought DepEd would completely trash out science in Grade School. Science will be introduced as a subject only in Grade 3. There is a general realigning of some subjects in the K+12 curriculum.
So finally someone has already listened to the recommendations of the Education Researchers on the Mother Tongue Language Teaching. Study after study says that students learn more if Mother Language is used as medium of instruction during the formative years (Grades 1-3). This is a very big departure from the English-only medium of instruction of the past administration. This means Grade 1 and 2 pupils from Northern Luzon can learn in Ilocano, or pupils from Cebuano they are in Cebuano speaking areas…
